Boardgame Wednesday with Marcus!
MEMBER INTERVIEW WITH MARCUS RIVERA ÖMAN
Marcus Rivera Öman is a member at A House Slussen—and perhaps Sweden’s biggest board game enthusiast. On Wednesdays, he runs his board game club, and you are most welcome to stop by, have a coffee, and play for a while.
Hello Marcus! Who are you, and what do you do at A House?
– I am a quant at a music tech company that manages funds for music rights—dECIBL. Fittingly enough, I ended up in this job through board games. I played a couple of times (Werewolf – Norse mythology, Nemesis, Rising Sun) with the boyfriend of a friend I met on the dance floor. Fast-forward a few months and he is now my boss (even though I crush him in games).
Could you tell us a bit more about your new board game club?
– Boardgame Wednesday is an opportunity for members at A House to let go of the everyday and challenge themselves—against or alongside one another. I love games because, in the unreal, they allow us to get to know both others and ourselves more honestly. In everyday life, we often present a more rehearsed version of ourselves, but in the game you end up in unexpected situations where your true traits come out—do I keep my word or bluff, risk everything or play it safe? Anything is possible in games!
Which board game is the most underrated?
– The most underrated board game is Game of Thrones (2nd ed.). A fantastic strategy game that encourages fragile alliances and devastating conflicts, heightened emotions, and moments of admirable honesty. However, we will be playing considerably simpler and faster games, which should not be underestimated either. :)
Where: Meeting room Vitt
