The duller the facade, the more fun the assignment.
MEMBER INTERVIEW WITH BY ARKITEKTUR
In a studio at Börshuset, you’ll find the architecture firm that’s breathing new life into the overlooked. Meet member: By Arkitektur.
Describe By Arkitektur to someone who isn’t familiar with the industry?
– By Arkitektur is an architecture firm in Stockholm that represents a new generation, wanting to rethink both what we create and how. We like to work with large, complex projects in urban environments and interesting renovations.
Projects you’d like to receive in your inbox: what headline gets you excited?
– We love working with office buildings from the 80s and 90s that need a new lease of life. The duller the facade, the more fun the challenge, we think.
Which design principle acts as your compass when you get stuck in a choice?
– There are several, but one principle that we often remind ourselves of is that the quality must be obvious to everyone, not just those interested in architecture.
Which industry trends are you following extra closely?
– Above all, we strive to spot what people aren’t talking about right now, but should be. We draw much of our inspiration from other innovative industries, such as software development,
Three criteria you never compromise on?
– Good movement and connections in the building, a good investment for the client, and a memorable design.
A local reference that you are currently returning to – and what you are borrowing from it?
– Börshuset. For us, it is a clear example of a well-functioning coworking environment, and we are particularly interested in how it can be scaled up.
What is A house Börshuset for you?
– We have felt at home since day one. We have gotten to know many fantastic people, and the feeling of possibilities is very strong here!
What do you like most about the building?
– The sofa along the wall in the Börssalen. We gather there every morning around a coffee before we start working.
Tell us about an object in your office and the story behind it?
– We have an incredibly luxurious Mont Blanc pen, Leonard Bernstein edition, with an accompanying CD, which Hugo received as a gift because he really likes Leonard Bernstein. We take it out and use it when something needs to be signed.
Sketch by hand or directly digitally?
– Digitally (with a digital pen).
Matte or glossy?
– Glossy.
Natural light or smart lighting?
– Always daylight.
Solid white wall or texture?
– Texture.
Big picture or small improvements?
– Big picture.
What can other members ask or talk to you about, an area of expertise?
– We specialize in office spaces, both in older and new buildings, and are particularly interested in how working methods are developing and how design and corporate culture work together.
