“The book takes the reader through both the best and the worst of humanity”
MEMBER INTERVIEW WITH OMAR ALSHOGRE
At A house, Omar Alshorge works at Einride, a company at the forefront of autonomous technology and sustainable transportation. But he also travels the world lecturing about how he was imprisoned in Syria as a child and endured three years of torture and starvation – before his mother managed to smuggle him out.
Hello Omar! You got the chance to speak last year on Sommar i P1. What was that like?
– Being a summer speaker was a powerful and important experience. It gave me the opportunity to highlight the people who sacrificed everything for me to live – people who risked their lives to protect me. It became a way to honor their courage and love. I also talked about what makes a human being a ‘monster’ – and what makes that monster might one day turn out to be human too.
You are currently releasing your book Hundred Flowers. Can you tell us about the book?
– One Hundred Flowers is a beautiful story, but it is a beauty that cannot be described without mentioning the brutal and horrible. The book takes the reader through both the best and the worst of humanity. It is a story of love, hope and survival – but also of pain, betrayal and cruelty. The idea for the book was born out of the need to give voice to the stories that are often silenced, and to process what I myself have been through.
What do you like best about A house?
– The social areas, the good breakfast – and of course your Event Coordinator Anna-Karin! There is a special energy here that makes it easy to feel comfortable and inspired.
If you want to know more about Omar’s new book, you are warmly welcome to Domus A house Katarinahuset on August 27 at 17.30 at his book release!
