From napkin sketch to armchair!

MEMBER INTERVIEW WITH MASSPRODUCTIONS

Massproductions was founded in 2009 and is run by our members Magnus Elebäck and Chris Martin. After designing furniture for other brands, they decided to take control of the entire chain and launch their own collection.

Hi! What does the process look like from idea to finished product?
– We have a dynamic process with brainstorming sketches on napkins and discussions back and forth. It usually starts with Chris becoming obsessed with a problem that needs to be solved and then weeks of prototyping.

Favorite product right now?
– Just before the summer, we released our new Astro armchair, a modern take on the club chair, you could say. Light in expression and with fabulous comfort. It was originally designed for Stockholm City Hall, but for obscure reasons, it didn’t end up there. However, we were so pleased with the result that we decided to continue developing the armchair and include it in the range.

Which interior design trend must disappear from homes around Sweden?
– Oh, I don’t know. It may sound strange, but I’m actually not up to date with interior design trends.

What is the biggest buzz with you right now?
Three things actually! Firstly, an exhibition and an event we are doing at Living Motif in Tokyo at the end of October. It will be fun to go over and meet our customers in Japan. At the same time, we are launching a collaboration with a global retailer that will probably be noticed a lot – unfortunately, I can’t tell you more before it’s live. Immediately after this, we are doing an exhibition and an event at the venerable Aram in London.

What do you like best about A house Katarinahuset?
– Besides the fact that it is a good atmosphere and full of exciting companies in the premises, it is also in an extremely good location. Nya Slussen has a pulse and is accessible in every way. The view is magnificent.

Besides furniture and interior design – is there anything else you are extra good at?
– People say we organize good parties.
