“Fall in love with a problem, not a solution.

From desk to start-up: what happens when three experienced entrepreneurs run into each other in our creative coworking space? In the case of Meadows, an innovative venture was born that takes the beverage can to new industries. We had a chat with Peder Stubert, one of the founders.

Hi Peder! Tell us more about Meadow?
– Meadow is a circular packaging system that means we have transformed the aluminum beverage can into a pre-fill cartridge – Meadow KAPSUL. This means that we can take all the benefits of the can, which today is mainly used in beverages, to completely new industries such as personal care, home care, food and supplements.

You met at A house Ark – what does A house mean to you?
– A house is our home, our everyday life and our playground. Meadow was born here – I had just sold my previous fashion tech company to a Japanese investor syndicate and took a place in the Work Club to think outside the box. After just two weeks, I ran into Victor (one of my two co-founders), who I knew through my brother. We had lunch – and then it was on. Victor and I then spent almost 12 months iterating 2 different business ideas to solve the litter disaster, but it wasn’t until we met our third co-founder Nick Paget that everything fell into place. The cool thing is that we also met Nick at A house, so it really all started here! Nick is an industrial designer with a long track record as an entrepreneur and innovator.

Tell us about your product?
– We have developed a new type of opening on the aluminum beverage can, making it possible to take the can into new industries – and at the same time phase out disposable packaging. Meadow KAPSUL is combined with a dispenser that can be designed in an infinite number of variations: pump for personal care, spray for home care, screw cap for food and pharma… The consumer keeps his dispenser, and the can is recycled after use.

Meadow’s mission is to replace linear (disposable) packaging with the Meadow system – to reduce emissions, preserve biodiversity and stop litter generation in the FMCG sector, globally, on a mega scale and immediately. Why the aluminum can?
– Metal is one of the few materials that can be recycled endlessly – with low energy consumption. So can glass, but it requires significantly more energy to melt down. With the advantages of aluminum cans – infinite recyclability, low energy consumption and a global recycling infrastructure – we aim to replace single-use packaging in the FMCG sector, reduce emissions and prevent waste. On a large scale.

Do you have any advice for others who want to enter the sustainability market?
– Fall in love with a problem, not a solution. Being solution-agnostic – and instead having a deep engagement with a real problem – makes it easier to iterate your way to something that actually works. Entrepreneurship is a constant journey of iterating and tweaking to get it right.

What does 2025 look like for Meadow?
– We launch with our first customers – both in Europe and the US!

What’s the biggest buzz around you right now?
– That we go live this year! But we’re working just as hard on 2026 and 2027. Our goal is to replace billions of single-use packages with the aluminum can in the next five years – so our growth plan is aggressive! That’s why we’re always two years ahead in our planning.

This fall, Meadow is entering the market with several brands – both in the US and the UK. Exactly which brands are involved is still a secret, but the launches mark the start of something big. Already, Meadow is live with Nuniq, a premium European natural care brand. Their products can be found in Meadow packaging at nuniq.io.

What are you most proud of?
– Our team of almost 18 people in Stockholm and London – with incredible industrial designers, engineers, patent strategists, supply chain and FMCG experts. Together with partners in can production, co-packing, dispenser manufacturing and machine building, we are creating a Meadow – an ecosystem for the sustainable packaging solutions of the future.

Where can you be found at lunch?
– Often out for a walk or a workout – but when there are guest chefs in the lobby (A house tradition Tuesday Lunch Chef) you will find us there, with colleagues or other friends from A house.

Canned wine – yay or nay?
– Yay! Anything in a can is a plus for the environment, as long as the can is recycled. In Sweden, we have a strong deposit system, and metal can also be recycled in FTI’s green containers or in the house’s metal recycling. Unlike plastic and paper, which are unfortunately often burned, metal is recycled properly.

Which TV series should you not miss this spring?
– Adolescence. A painful but vital story – especially for those who have children, or are thinking of having them. It’s hard to see, but even harder to ignore.
