A conversation with Sara Strand
Sara Strand has spent the last decade in Sweden and the U.S. working within graphic design and art direction, during which she has developed a distinctly playful style characterized by simple shapes and fun colors. Now back in Stockholm, she keeps her base as a Work Club member here at A house Ark doing what she loves the most: meeting new people, sipping on a cup of coffee and conceptualizing new ideas – preferably ones that allow for storytelling.
Hi there Sara, what is it that you do?
Hi there! I’m an Illustrator, Designer and Art Director. Over the years I’ve worked on all kinds of projects with clients ranging from small startups to some of the largest companies in the world. Most recently I was a Designer and Art Director at Pinterest in San Francisco.
The verb best describing you?
Playful.
Collab of your dreams?
I have many! But if I would pick one, it would be something to do with the environment or human rights—both topics are close to my heart. I care deeply about how we treat our planet and each other. I believe that creativity and art can be used to spark conversations, support change and create a better environment for generations to come.
A dream collab or project would be to illustrate a New Yorker cover that relates to these notions – or work with an organization invested in any of these subjects.
What is co-creation to you?
Co-creation to me is when you’re curious. You listen to others’ POV and find ways to push each other towards a common goal. I hope to learn something from every project and from every person that I meet—that’s how I grow as a designer and a human being.
Which one of the A house principles speaks to you the most and why?
“The community is our most creative tool”. I’m a true believer in community and collaboration; I love learning new things and exchanging knowledge with others so I’m excited to meet other creative minds here at A house Ark!
